How to Receive a Massage

Uldis believes everyone should be able to take advantage of the wonderful therapeutic and stress relieving benefits of massage therapy.  We are committed to ensuring that every time you visit our spa, you enjoy a caring and healing experience provided by a professional massage therapist. If you've never visited Uldis or have not yet to receive a professional massage therapy session, we thought it would be helpful for you to know what to expect on your first visit.

Before the Massage:

Once you arrive at the Belmont Athletic Club, the front desk will provide you with towels and robe.

The person at the front desk will then take you to a peaceful, spa-like treatment room where a comfortable massage table dressed with a crisp clean sheet awaits.  A small shelf for your personal belongings and a chair are also provided for your use or you can leave all belongings in secured locker. Massage therapist will leave the room to wash hands and wait outside while you disrobe to your level of comfort. Some clients prefer to completely disrobe, while some will remain partially clothed. Once disrobed, you will lie on the massage table, under the top sheet. Massage therapist will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room.

You will always be draped with the top sheet during your massage session and an additional blanket is available at your request. Your massage therapist will only uncover the part of the body they are working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

Showering or spending some time in sauna or steam room before receiving a massage will help to calm the body and set you more at ease.

Use the bathroom. If you will need to do so during the massage, you are more than welcome. You can use the provided robe to clothe yourself.

Long hair can be pinned up.

Know that you can interrupt the session any time if there is something you need or to ask questions.

During the Massage:

The manner in which your body is massaged depends on the problem being treated.

Only a high quality fragrance free massage oil or lotion will be applied to reduce friction between hands and your skin.

You may have soft music playing in the background.

Relax by closing your eyes and calming your mind. Focus on your breathing by letting your belly rise with each inhale and fall with each exhale. Keep a slow and even rhythm.

Areas where you feel tension or pain in your body, try to relax into those areas. As the pressure is applied to the muscle you can exhale. Then as the pressure is released you can inhale. During inhalation you relax. With exhalation the tension leaves your body.

Unrelated conversation detracts from the session. Focus your mind on the massage. Making sure to speak up if the area being worked on is painful, ticklish, or uncomfortable in any way. Also, let your massage therapist to know if you feel the temperature of the room needs to be adjusted.

At times your limbs will need to be moved to certain positions. Let your body be limp. There is no need to assist in the movement of your arms, legs, or head.

It is possible your body may become aroused as you experience total relaxation. This is expected. The massage will continue in the usual manner.

As the body releases tension, the mind releases emotion. If you suddenly feel a strong emotion allow yourself to express these feelings as you need.

If you have fallen asleep during a massage it is indication the body and mind are releasing stress and tension. Your massage therapist will allow you to sleep and gently wake you when it is time to turn over or the massage is finished.

After the Massage:

Once your massage therapy session is completed, your massage therapist will leave the room so you may re-dress. He will wait outside the room for you, and then take you back to the front area.

Massage therapy sessions is one hour and ten minutes in length. This time includes a 5 minute pre-interview, 60 minutes of hands-on time and 5 minutes at the end for you to re-dress.

Be sure to drink plenty of water after the session. Expect the release of toxins from the body tissues. Water helps to flush these toxins out of the body.

Getting up from the table you may feel dizziness. Take your time when sitting up.

It is our intention that your massage be both enjoyable and beneficial. The experience will be the beginning of a lifelong practice to help you enjoy the best possible health and relaxation. Be sure to follow up with us letting us know what outcome you experienced. Thank you.
